Air and Fire
"Air" and "Fire," two of the four massive groups of sculpture in the Court of the Universe, by Robert Aitken. In size and vigor like the work of Michael Angelo. The wings of the upper figure and the birds symbolize the meaning. In the lower group the spirit of fire is suggested by the Salamander, in front of the man, the line of whose figure is carried into the Graeco-Roman helmet and whose pose, in grace and power, suggests the figure of Theseus in the pediment of the Parthenon.
