Ramona's House
The story of Ramona, by Helen Hunt Jackson, was an inductment of the treatment of the Indians of California by the white invaders of the country. The scene of the story is land at San Luis Rey, the heroine and hero being Ramona, who had Indian blood, and her Indian husband Alessandro. It describes the destruction of the lives and homes and ranches of the Indians which they had acquired as the result of the labors of the Franscican fathers in teaching them husbandry. |
