The Genius of Creation, by Daniel Chester French, in front of the main doorway of Machinery Palace. It was originally intended that the group should be placed in the Court of the Universe. The figure of inspiration, with arms extended in a commanding gesture, is seated on a rugged mass of rock and is looking down on a woman and man. The woman is timidly reaching out and touching the hand of the man, who, is ready to battle with life. The serpent at base symbolizes wisdom.
