Edgar Walter's fountain, "Beauty and the Beast," in the Court of Flowers, designed for the sunken garden in the Court of Palms, to be viewed from above. French in spirit and finely executed. The figure of the girl, seated on the coils of the beast, is particularly well done. The frieze is Assyrian in treatment, the Bear, the Ape, the Tiger, and the Lion. Under the bowl Fauns and Satyrs are playing on pipes. |
